This study describes and analyzes some components of the labor market associated with the Uruguayan IT industry and the demand for specialized talent in the ICT field in the country.
The research took as input information from the Labor Monitor that Advice prepares periodically and was based on the review and systematization of information from the different job portals and virtual job boards in force in Uruguay. The objective is to understand what are the main demands and requirements of talent linked to information technologies in the country today.
The period under study is from November 2021 to October 2022, which gives continuity to the previous monitor that took October 2021 as the end point and collected information from the same period one year earlier. As a result, it is possible to present the information in a comparative manner between both measurements in order to observe the evolution of the indicators.
Among the main findings of the study, it is observed that labor demand related to information technologies has constituted approximately one-fifth of the total demand made through the web portals during the study period, as in the previous measurement.
At the same time, the study confirms that the IT sector requires both IT expert talent and talent from different areas and backgrounds. In this sense, more than a quarter of the demand made by companies that carry out technological activities demanded non-IT expert positions.
Conversely, the demand for technological profiles provided by the group of companies from other sectors revealed the existing market for technological profiles outside the IT field. Thus, almost a third of the demand for IT positions came from other sectors.
In relation to this, it was observed that the position in greatest demand among the profiles with expertise in technology was that of programmer, both in terms of demand from companies in the IT sector as well as from companies that do not belong to it.
Finally, the strong presence of teleworking is once again identified, considering that more than half of the calls included in the total demand for the period made some mention of this modality of work.
